Milano Playwriting Festival has started since last year a Playwriting Scheme with the aim of nourishing new voices, in collaboration with various high schools in Lombardia Region. The scheme has guided the teenagers through a practical and artistic learning journey. This has taken the form of an Apprenticeship Program, holding together various aspects: students has worked on the english language through analysis of The Economist’s magazine stories; through workshops with our Art. Dir. and individual work, they have then re-elaborate the studied material to create their own play; finally they have presented the new play during our yearly Festival.
For our 2017 edition we have selected 22 students coming from high schools located in Milano, Varese, Como, Meda, Cremona, Desio and Pavia.
Their own plays has been then staged during the Festival by about 200 students coming from 15 different schools from all Italy (the 15 schools were part of our acting project called Teens, morehere). During the Festival students taking part in our Playwriting Scheme have also had the chance to take active part in the rehearsal process and to participate in a Q&A with the public right after the staging.
